      Lunchtime Talk: John Curtis - Entomologist

      John Curtis was an English entomologist and illustrator. He was born in Norwich and learned his engraving skills in his father’s workshop. His greatest achievement, British Entomology, is considered one of the finest works on the subject in the 19th-century. Published monthly from 1824 to 1839, the finished work comprises 16 volumes covering 770 insect species, and copies are kept at Leeds Central Library. Georges Cuvier described the works as "the paragon of perfection".
